Sermon Title: “Making Space–Progressive Christian Convictions: Post-Colonial Mission Work”

THIS WEEK

GRIEF GROUP meets each Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in the church office
conference room. The group will continue through March. There is no cost and anyone is welcome that is dealing with a loss in their life of any kind.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ALIVE is Wednesday, February 8, at 6:00 p.m., in fellowship hall. We are reading and discussing Rachel Held Evans’ book Searching for Sunday. Like millions of her millennial peers, Rachel didn’t want to go to church anymore. The hypocrisy, the politics, the gargantuan building budgets, the scandals—church culture seemed so far removed from Jesus. Yet, despite her cynicism and misgivings, something kept drawing her back… Books can be purchased on Amazon.

WOMENS’ GUILD VALENTINE TEA and fashion show is on Saturday, February 11, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. There will be an informal fashion show featuring Christopher Banks clothing, which will be modeled by our own guild members. Feel free to invite guests. Tickets can be purchased after church. The tickets are $15.00, and sales are limited to the first 60 people who sign up. Serving begins promptly at 2:00.

HEAD-TO-TOE HYGIENE PANTRY workday is Thursday, February 16, from 9-11, at 1611 N Mosley. The pantry is open on Saturday, February 18, from 9:00-11:30am

Sirloin, 5325 E Kellogg Drive. The guest speaker is Colonel Joseph Jabara, Kansas Air National Guard.

Strategic Growth. Join us on February 18th, as Reverend Jinx M. Barber will hold a seminar on church revitalization and growth. He will give us tools that will help us see where we are, where we want to be, and how we can get there together.

Evans is hosted by College Hill United Methodist Church on Friday, April 21 at 7:00-8:30p.m., and by University Congregational Church on Saturday, April 22, from 9:00-10:30 a.m., and from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per session or $50 for all three sessions. Tickets may be purchased at each church or on each church’s
individual website.
