From the Moderator

The Board of Trustees made a commitment to you in 2017 to work toward increased fiscal sustainability for UCC and to increase transparency through enhanced communication.   At the conclusion of the first quarter of 2018, a brief update seems appropriate. 

I want to begin by noting that we are on track with revenues in the committed giving category, that is those pledges/commitments you made last fall are coming in faithfully at this time.  I want to express my sincere appreciation for your faithfulness in regularly submitting those payments.  They are the backbone of our budget, and without them we simply cannot meet our expenses.  Thank you so much.   I would like, also, to put in a plug for your continued timeliness as we move into vacation season.  We often face a shortfall as people get out of their routine during the summer.  If there is anyway you can put a reminder on your phone or calendar, we would greatly appreciate that, as it is traditionally our most challenging time of year.

Additional good news is that the two distributions we receive from the Endowment  were generous this year due to a stronger market last year.   They will allow us to make up for a shortfall in 2017 carryover.   We feel fortunate to have that unexpected revenue to help us balance the budget.  

Finally, the members of the Finance Committee continue to look at additional sources of revenue to recommend for consideration to the Trustees.  Soon we will meet with an outside consultant who advises churches on such matters.  Our goal is to be proactive in thinking about the future.   I will continue to update you as the year progresses.  For now, we are off to a very good beginning to 2018.  Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for the work we are doing together.
