GOOD NEWS FROM CHRISTIAN EDUCATION! The numbers are growing in our Sunday School, and we envision further growth this year.   But it has been awhile since all the rooms available for the children and youth Sunday School programs have been used. Consequently, they are due for a thorough inventory and cleaning plus reorganizing to make sure they are kid friendly.  The C.E. Board is seeking volunteers to help with this project.  Not knowing exactly how long this may take, we have set aside the first three Saturdays in February; 2/1, 2/8 and 2/15, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. as work days. With enough volunteers, it may take only one day.  If you can help, please call Karen Parker, 337-5817. Any amount of time you can give to this project will be appreciated.

THE ADULT DISCUSSION GROUP is continuing to meet on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in the conference room.  Next Sunday, February 2, Martin Eby will talk about his and Melodee’s recent trip from Moscow to Leningrad on the Volga Canal including pictures of the Catherine Palace and Hermitage. With the interesting and educational things that Martin and Melodee are a part of, this should be very informative talk.

Traditional Word:          John 4:5-26

A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, ‘Give me a drink’. (His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, ‘How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?’ (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, “Give me a drink”, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.’ The woman said to him, ‘Sir, you have no bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well, and with his sons and his flocks drank from it?’ Jesus said to her, ‘Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but those who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.’ The woman said to him, ‘Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.’

Jesus said to her, ‘Go, call your husband, and come back.’ The woman answered him, ‘I have no husband.’ Jesus said to her, ‘You are right in saying, “I have no husband”; for you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband. What you have said is true!’ The woman said to him, ‘Sir, I see that you are a prophet. Our ancestors worshipped on this mountain, but you say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.’ The woman said to him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming’ (who is called Christ). ‘When he comes, he will proclaim all things to us.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I am he, the one who is speaking to you.’

Contemporary Word:     “The Woman At The Well”

                                                               By Scripto Santo

She came looking for water,
It was dusty and hot,
It was midday,
She was hiding.

The Man sat on the edge,
He was above Jacob’s abyss.
Deep down was the water.
He had tossed in a pebble,
It splashed a long way down.
He asked her for water.
She was taken aback,
By His Jewish cheek.

He looked at her,
Explaining all.
He told her
And inspired her.
Her dropped bucket
As she sprinted away,
Towards the Samaritan town,
Shouting the Good News.

First Anthem       “Every Time I Think About Jesus”

Every time I think about Jesus, surely he died on Calvary.

Every time I talk about Jesus, surely he rose up from the grave.

Every time I shout about Jesus, surely he’s coming from the sky.  Surely he died on Calvary.

Second Anthem         “Give Me Jesus”

When I am alone, give me Jesus.

You may have all the rest, give me Jesus.

When I come to die, give me Jesus.

You may have all the rest, give me Jesus.

And when I want to sing, give me Jesus.

You may have all the rest, give me Jesus. And when I am alone, give me Jesus.
