TODAY THE FLOWERS ON THE COMMUNION TABLE TODAY are given by Brenda Leerskov, and Yvette and Mel Ehrlich. In memory of their Mother’s 100th birthday. ALL BOARDS MEET immediately following the worship service at 11:45. THE CE BOARD will meet in the Science and Exploration Room. THE MUSIC BOARD will meet in the room beside the choir room. THE OUTREACH BOARD will meet in the office meeting room. THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES will meet in the conference room. THIS WEEK GROWTH TEAM meets on Sunday, May 19, at 9:00am, in fellowship hall. NO COUNCIL MEETING on Monday, May 20. LARKSFIELD DISCUSSION GROUP meets on May 22, at 10:00 a.m., in the club room at Larksfield Place, 7373 E. 29th St. N. Anyone is welcome. SEWING FOR HONDURAS BABIES – Time to start sewing for our Honduras babies. We will start making jackets, hats and blankets on Thursday, May 9. Bring your lunch and meet us in the Guild Room at 10 am. We will end at approximately 2 pm and then return on May 23 to complete our work. You do not need to know how to sew. We have several jobs and great people to show you how to do what is needed. Put May 9 and May 23 on your calendar! YOGA meets every Tuesday at 4:00 and Friday, at 10:00, in fellowship hall. The cost for the Tuesday class is $5 because it is instructor led. NEXT WEEK MEMORIAL DAY on Monday, May 27. Offices will be closed. ALL CHURCH PICNIC AND ICE CREAM SOCIAL – Summer is almost here, and we are getting ready for our “All Church Picnic, Ice Cream Social, and Farewell to Michael Hanawalt”, on Sunday June 2, at 11:30, in fellowship hall. Please bring a side dish to serve 10 people. The Deacons will provide grilled burgers, and hotdogs. Ice cream and outdoor games will be provided and supervised by the Christian Education Board. Please bring your food items “ready to go”. The kitchen is in use, and there is not room for food preparation before the event. The ovens will be available for keeping things warm. UCC OUTREACH IN ACTION – The Outreach Board directed this year’s Gutru Endowment funds to four worthy recipients: 1) Lions Club Deaf and Hard of Hearing Camp for scholarships to children with hearing impairments; 2) National Alliance on Mental Illness, Kansas chapter, for education notebooks for families whose children are newly diagnosed with a mental illness; 3) The Arc of Sedgwick County for summer YESS camp scholarships for children with intellectual disabilities; and 4) an academic scholarship for an accomplished Goddard High School graduate with a severe visual impairment who will enter Wichita State University this fall to pursue a degree in computer science. The Robert Gutru Endowment continues to advance our “church in the world” presence and is truly a gift that keeps on giving. |
