ANGEL TREE GIVING – Thanks to your abundant generosity, once again this year our Angel tags are flying off our fellowship hall tree!  A dozen or so tags for Starkey friends still remain, so if you have not yet claimed a tag, please stop by our table in fellowship hall today.  The Starkey tags represent adults with developmental disabilities who have limited family engagement and income, meaning that our UCC gifts will likely be the extent of their gifts under the tree at their group homes.  All Angel Tree gifts should be wrapped, placed in a clear plastic bag with the original tag, and returned to Fellowship Hall no later than Sunday, December 8.  For questions, contact Rod Phares or Marla Flentje.

BLANKET COLLECTION FOR OPERATION HOLIDAY – We are collecting blankets again and new or gently used coats of all sizes. Please bring new full or queen size blankets and coats to the Operation Holiday collection box in fellowship hall anytime through Sunday, December 8.

COLORING BOOKS WANTED – The Head-to-Toe Hygiene Pantry is collecting children’s coloring books to distribute to children that visit the pantry on December 21.  They do not need crayons this time.  Please bring the coloring books to fellowship hall and drop them in the bins designated for the pantry.

Thanks to those who contributed food to the November 5^th First Tuesday Homeless Meal, to Grace Kneil for creating the meal, to those who served that evening and to all who offered to help. We served about 50 men and women at the Winter Overflow Shelter and at The Villas across the street that night. (Leftovers are never wasted!)

The congregation is asked to help by providing gowns/sleepers or an outfit, onesies, socks, hats, warm blankets, and toys (for babies 0 – 3 months). Please place items in the box designated for the shower in fellowship hall.

parlor. We will focus on the 1619 Project. Commissioned by the New York Times in partnership with the Smithsonian, the 1619 Project re-examines the legacy of slavery in the U.S. The Project is timed for the 400^th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved people from West Africa and includes historical essays, poems, and fiction. House Church facilitators will lead discussion of selected essays.  Everyone is welcome, and you need not attend each session. This session is four weeks through November 12. CLEANING CREW NEEDED – Friday, October 25th, 9:30 a.m.  The Outreach Board invites you to join us in putting the final cleaning touches on a new Habitat for Humanity home located at 1311 N Estelle.  The Barahuni family, originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, have put in many hours of “sweat equity” and are anxiously awaiting to move in.  All cleaning supplies will be available.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ALIVE – “The Most Dangerous Book in the World”, a progressive Bible study on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00, September 11-October 30.   Did you ever wonder how the Bible came to be? Who decided what books would be in it? Who even wrote all those books? And why it is so dangerous? If these questions spark your curiosity then you should join us for Wednesday Night Alive. You will need a New Revised Standard Version Bible. 

SWEET PEACE – An elegant buffet of hors d’oeuvres and desserts benefitting Partners for Wichita. Will be held at the Dugan Gorges Conference Center, Newman University on Thursday, October 10, 2019, 7:00pm.  Sign up on the PIC board today.

YOGA meets every Tuesday at 4:00, Thursday at 6:00, and Friday, at 10:00, in
fellowship hall. The cost for the Tuesday and Thursday class is $5, because it is
instructor led.

MENS’ LUNCH is Thursday, March 16, at 11:30, at Scotch & Sirloin. The guest speaker is Mike Kennedy, the voice of the Shockers, will talk about the coming season of men’s basketball.

HEAD-TO-TOE HYGIENE PANTRY is open on Saturday, September 17, from 9:00-11:30 a.m., at 2130 E. 21st St. N.  There is no workday this week.

BABY SHOWER TIME- The UCC Women’s Guild annual Baby Shower is on Wednesday, October 30, at 11 a.m. in fellowship hall. We will decorate bags, have a lunch of soup and sandwiches and then fill the bags with articles needed for newborn babies. The bags will be distributed to agencies that work with underprivileged mothers and babies. Everyone is welcome to attend.  The Guild will provide diapers, wipes, lotion and shampoo. The congregation is asked to help by providing gowns/sleepers or an outfit, onesies, socks, hats, warm blankets, and toys (for babies 0 – 3 months). Please place items in the box designated for the shower in fellowship hall.

NEW HOUSE CHURCH STUDY – begins October 22, at 7:00pm, in the UCC
parlor. We will focus on the 1619 Project. Commissioned by the New York Times in partnership with the Smithsonian, the 1619 Project re-examines the legacy of slavery in the U.S. The Project is timed for the 400^th anniversary of the arrival of the first enslaved people from West Africa and includes historical essays, poems, and fiction. House Church facilitators will lead discussion of selected essays.  Everyone is welcome, and you need not attend each session. This session is four weeks through November 12.
