Sermon Title: Movies and Stories–The Color Purple

THIS WEEK

FILLING THE GAP LUNCHES FOR KIDS August 1-19. Due to the
delayed start of school in Wichita, the gap where kids will not have access to school lunches will be 3 weeks this summer. Filling the Gap provides lunches & milk for students. If you would like to donate healthy snacks such as:
goldfish crackers, pudding cups, fruit cups or granola bars, bring them to the church by July 31. You may also send a check to UCC with Fill the Gap on the memo line and we will shop for snacks and fresh fruit. A volunteer list will be on the PIC board starting July 10, if you would like to volunteer to help distribute the lunches to kids. A drop box is set up in Fellowship Hall for your snack donations, and a separate box for checks.

NEXT WEEK

SCHOOL STARTS AUGUST 24! We are joining Dellrose United Methodist Church to help them collect and distribute school supplies for the 2016-2017 school year. We are asking for donations of school supplies, backpacks, and textbook fees. The lists of supplies needed for each grade are on the PIC board in Fellowship Hall and you can shop for those items or write a check to UCC (put Back to School on the memo line) and we will shop for you. Textbook rental fees are $22 for Kindergarten and $37 for grades 1-5. Any money left over from the backpacks and school supplies will go to the textbook fees.

Thursday, August 11, at 5:30, the backpacks will be filled with supplies and Sunday, August 14, from 1:00-3:00 the backpacks will be handed out to the kids. You are welcome to volunteer on either or both of these dates at Dellrose United Methodist Church located at 1502 N. Dellrose (1 blk west of Oliver). If you would like to volunteer there are sign-up sheets on the PIC board in Fellowship Hall. Let’s help the kids start out the school year with the items they need. All school supplies, and checks need to be at UCC by
Sunday, August 7. Our goal this year is 50 filled backpacks!

WOMEN’S POWER LUNCH Thursday, August 11, from 11:30-1:00, at the
Petroleum Club. Enjoy a delicious lunch, hear inspiring speakers and meet the 2016 Women Build homebuyer. Order tickets online at: www.wichitahabitat.org/lunch/. Please RSVP to the church office at

IFM HUMANITARIAN DINNER Thursday, August 18, at 6:00p.m., Hyatt Regency Hotel, 400 W. Waterman. Contact Interfaith Ministries office at
316-264-9303, to purchase tickets for the event. 2016 recipients include Dr. John and Deborah Bardo, Drs. Sharon and Evies Cranford, His Helping Hands, Wichita Crime Commission, and Maira Salim.

MEN’S LUNCH meet Thursday, July 21, at 10:30 at UCC to carpool to Matt Bretz’s Carriage Crossing in Yoder for lunch and then on to Matt Bretz’s house.

BACK TO SCHOOL PROJECT Our goal this year is 50 backpacks with school supplies. UCC and Outreach board is once again partnering with Dellrose United Methodist church to collect and distribute school supplies and backpacks for the 2016-2017 school year. In addition to the school supplies, families also have to pay for textbook rental. The textbook fee for
Kindergarten is $22 and $37 for grades 1-5.

We are asking for donations of school supplies, backpacks, & textbook fees. You are welcome to shop for the supplies listed on the PIC board (available July 10) or send a check to the church and write “Back to School” on the memo line and we will purchase the items for you. The distribution date will be Sunday, August 14, at Dellrose UMC. All supplies & checks will need to be at UCC by Sunday, Aug. 7, in order for us to purchase the items and
deliver them to Dellrose UMC. The Outreach board will take part in the distribution of the Back to School supplies and will report back to you with how you helped these children. If any of you would like to volunteer at the time of distribution, please see Rod Phares or Cyndi Richter. You can make a real difference in a child as they head back to school with the items they need.

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING at 11:30a.m. There are two agenda items that call for a vote.

Agenda Item #1: Approve the sale of the residence at 1050 N Pinecrest which was transferred to the church by Becky Tucker.

Agenda Item #2: Trudy Matthews has resigned her position as Moderator-Elect due to family obligations. Jane Phares has agreed to step into the
position and to serve as Moderator for 2017. The congregation is asked to approve this. Please plan to attend this important meeting immediately
following worship.

Agenda Item #3: Approve the recent bylaws revisions.

ISLAMIC SOCIETY OF WICHITA at UCC on Sunday, July 10, at 6:00p.m. There will be a presentation on Islam and an opportunity for questions.
Contact Robin or Paul if you have questions prior to this exciting event.

CHURCH NURSERY WORKER NEEDED to provide dependable, safe, secure, and nurturing care for children while at church, ages newborn to 4 years. Paid position. Individual must be available Sunday mornings and for other special events as listed in the Job Description.
