Amalgama will perform a concert at Prairie Pines, 4055 N Tyler Road, Maize, KS, on Thursday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $22, through the UCC church office, and on sale today in the fellowship hall foyer.

LAST CHANCE TO PURCHASE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS today, September 17. Ornaments are $17.00. Please mail your check to the church office, or place it in the offering plate. See display on the counter in fellowship hall.

SUPPORT WICHITA CROP HUNGER WALK— You can support this worthy outreach initiative to reduce hunger in our community – either by walking on the afternoon of October 1, or sponsoring a walker from UCC.  CROP raises dollars to support food assistance programs.  Twenty five percent of funds raised at the Wichita CROP walk stays in Wichita, with funds directed to local food assistance programs such as Open Door. To learn how you can participate go to:  www.crophungerwalk.org/wichitaks/   Or call Marla Flentje, 250-1344.

WOMEN’S GUILD SEWING PROJECT Fall will soon be here and it is time to start sewing blankets for the Baby shower. We will meet in the Guild Room on Thursday, September 21 and Thursday, September, 28 from 10:00-2:00. Bring your sewing machine or if you don’t sew we have some jobs for you. Everyone is welcome. Bring your lunch and help us put together blankets for under privileged babies in Wichita.

PARTNERSHIP WITH GAMMON ELEMENTARY—We have an opportunity to share our time and talents with the extraordinary students and teachers at Gammon, our neighborhood school.  Some jobs require a regular presence, based around your schedule.  Others require one-time or occasional commitments.  A few might be done in the comfort of your home.  Volunteer jobs include:  Lunch Buddy, Student Tutor, Book Reader, Classroom Support Helper, and Office Support Helper.   If you have questions or are ready to volunteer, please contact Cyndi Richter at 461-4148 or ccrichter@cox.net.

NEXT WEEK

FILLING THE GAP begins Monday, July 31 through Friday, August 18, from 11:45-1:15, Monday through Friday. We need volunteers to help at the Iasis Christian Center (1914 E. 11th St. N.). Children will be provided a prepared cold lunch, which they can take home or eat there. If you can help one or more days, please sign up in the basement on the PIC board during fellowship time after worship.

We are in need of some children’s books at Filling the Gap. Now would be a good time to go through your books at home and see if you have some that your children or grandchildren have outgrown. Just bring them to the church.

STEPHEN MINISTERS meets Thursday, August 3, at 2:00 p.m., in the
office conference room.

THE GAMMON SCHOOL SUPPLY CLOSET— will be brimming when school begins this fall, thanks to the generosity of our congregation!    Nearly $3,100 has been donated to supply high-demand school supplies to children from low-income families and their teachers.  An enthusiastic thank you to everyone who supported this new outreach to our neighborhood school.  If you would like to contribute, it’s not too late.  Please drop your notated check in the offering plate or mail it to the church office.  And stay tuned for more information about Gammon volunteer opportunities.

JOIN THE JAYWALKERS and support Jay Decker by going to:

Walk with Jay either virtually or in person on Saturday, September 23rd, as together we support all those affected by this devastating disease and raise funds to find a cure. You will find a label attached to your name tag this Sunday, stick the label on your shoes so Jay is able to identify who he is visiting with!
