NEXT WEEK

TRIP INFORMATIONAL MEETING on Sunday February 25, at 9:30 a.m., in fellowship hall. Please plan to attend this meeting if you are interested in a UCC group trip on early church exploration to Italy and Greece. Your attendance at the meeting will help Robin to design a trip to the places that participants prefer to visit.

SHOCKER SUNDAY is March 4. We are celebrating the Shockers! Come early at 9:30 for an abbreviated worship, in fellowship hall, and still have time to catch the game at 11:00. The Shocker Men’s Basketball team plays Cincinnati at home. So wear your Shocker attire for an informal service, continental breakfast, and music from the UCC Chancel Choir.

JESUS SEMINAR ON THE ROAD – “Paul in Context and in Conflict”, with Brandon Scott & Jason Beduhn, guest speakers. The historical Paul is as intriguing a figure as the historical Jesus, but unlike Jesus, Paul wrote letters. The authentic letters of Paul make it possible to talk about what Paul believed and to discover his vision of a radically transformed world. What becomes of the real Paul when he became the subject of conflict in the church? This seminar will be held on February 9-10, at

UCC SPRING FELLOWSHIP DINNER registration begins. You are invited to be a part of the Spring Fellowship dinners at UCC. There will be one dinner scheduled in March and one in April. Exact dates will be determined once registration is complete and the hosts contact participants.

The dinners are a wonderful way for UCC members and guests of our church to get better acquainted. A group of 6-10 will meet in someone’s home for a pot-luck dinner and an evening of fellowship and fun. Please register on the sheet located on the PIC board in fellowship hall. If you are willing to host a dinner, please mark it on the sheet. Please indicate in the last column the number of people you can accommodate in your home including host/hostesses. The final date for sign-ups is Sunday, February 11.

CONTRIBUTION FOR CHACARASECA AND COMMISSIONING – Today there will be a onetime collection taken to purchase supplies needed to build a latrine for a family in Chacaraseca. A group of UCC members that are traveling to Chacraseca in January with Paul and will be installing the latrine as one of the projects they will be completing while there. Look for baskets outside the sanctuary and a basket in Fellowship Hall. During January, the coin collection each Sunday will go to support our members’ mission in Chacaraseca. Next month, the coin collection will once again go to the Head-to-toe Hycigne Pantry.

Christmas Eve

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of the Annual Meeting of University Congregational Church, Wichita, KS, as provided for in the church’s bylaws. The meeting will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018, in the sanctuary immediately following the worship service at 11:30.

“IT’S NOT SERIOUS” – Is a book that has been published by Ted Blankenship. It is a book of his columns in The Active Age over the past five years. It’s titled “It’s Not Serious”, and has a cover by The Eagle’s editorial cartoonist Richard Crowson. Many have asked about it, and it is available at Amazon.com for $7.95.

RESPONSE TO THE ANGEL TREE PROJECT – exceeded all past giving. Our generous congregation is graced with the spirit of Christmas! Last week we provided over 200 gifts for people with developmental disabilities served by Starkey and for Gammon Elementary School students and their family members. We also provided gift cards to five new refugee families who have children in Gammon’s Newcomer classroom. In addition, we collected nearly 100 new blankets for Operation Holiday distribution. Your wonderful participation is a blessing of love and hope for so many in need this season.

TRIMMING THE TREE is today at 11:30, in fellowship hall. If you recently purchased a personalized ornament they are available in fellowship hall. All other personalized family ornaments are also in fellowship hall for you to find and put on the tree.

STEPHEN MINISTERS meets Thursday, December 7, at 2:00 p.m., in the office conference room.

ALL CHURCH CHRISTMAS PARTY is on December 9, in the fellowship hall. The party begins at 5:00 with beverages and appetizers and pre-dinner music with Doris Buss. Dinner begins at 5:30. Entertainment by Karla Burns
and her ensemble at 6:35. Meal is catered by Greystone. Your free will offering is welcome. Please sign-up on the PIC board if you will be attending.

YOGA meets every Tuesday at 4:00 and Friday, at 10:00, in fellowship hall. The cost for the Tuesday class is $5 because it is instructor led.

NEXT WEEK

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS MUSIC is next Sunday, December 10, at 10:30 during worship. Music performed by the UCC Chancel Choir and special guests. Due to all the wonderful music planned, we will end the service at 11:45.

NEEDLE WORKERS meet Tuesday, December 12, at 10:00, in fellowship hall.

HEAD-TO-TOE HYGIENE PANTRY workday is Thursday, December 14, from 9:00-11:00 am, at 2130 E. 21st St. N. The Pantry is open on Saturday, December 16, from 9:00-11:30 a.m.

PLAY-READING GROUP meets on Thursday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m. This group is open to anyone that is interested in reading plays.

IT’S POINSETTIA TIME! – If you would like to contribute to the Christmas floral display, please send a check for $17.00 to the church, payable to UCC by December 10, or you may put it in the offering plate today. Be sure to write flowers on the memo line and indicate if your donation is in honor of, or in memory of someone special.

AN EXTRAORDINARY UCC ANGEL TREE RESPONSE – Thank you once again for your overwhelming response to both of our Angel Trees. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

A reminder to bring your wrapped gifts in a large clear plastic bag with the tag attached to the parlor by Sunday, December 10. If you need a plastic bag, you may pick one up at the Outreach table in fellowship hall.

OPERATION HOLIDAY NEEDS BLANKETS – Once again this year, UCC will participate in Operation Holiday, sponsored by our partner, Inter-Faith Ministries. Each holiday season, the program distributes life-essential items to thousands of low-income families in our community. This year, UCC will specialize in collecting blankets which are typically the highest-demand item. Please bring your new, full-sized blanket to the collection box in fellowship hall no later than December 10.
